AN OPEN LETTER OF CONDOLENCE
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life!
On behalf of the Church of Uganda, please accept our condolences to you and all Ugandan Roman Catholics who are grieving the death of Pope John Paul II. He was not only the head of your church, but, for 26 years, he was also a great spiritual leader, model, and example for all who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
His clear voice of authority, his steady and consistent leadership, his dedication to youth, his advocacy for the poor and oppressed, his commitment to peace, and his personal devotion to the triune God will be missed in a world that sorely needs them all.
Yet, we know that he has moved into the nearer presence of our Lord and is advancing from glory to glory. He fought the good fight; he finished the race; he kept the faith. Now he, who longed for our Lord’s appearing, receives the crown of righteousness.
We are praying for you, your people, and all Ugandans that we will know the comfort of the Holy Spirit at this time of great loss, and at the same time rejoice that John Paul II’s name was written in the Book of Life.
Yours, in Christ,
The Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi
ARCHBISHOP OF CHURCH OF UGANDA.
