The Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi
The Most Reverend Henry Luke Orombi was enthroned as Archbishop of the 10 million member Church of the Province of Uganda on 25th January 2004 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, Kampala, Uganda.
Prior to his enthronement as Archbishop, Orombi served for ten years as the founding Bishop of Nebbi Diocese in northwestern Uganda. Originally trained as a teacher, Orombi left education to become an evangelist. After completing a diploma in theology in 1978 from Bishop Tucker Theological College, Mukono, Uganda, he was ordained in the Church of Uganda. He was initially posted in his home diocese of Madi/West Nile as the Diocesan Youth Coordinator. From 1980 – 1983, he took leave from his diocesan ministry to study at St. John’s College, Nottingham, England, where he completed his Bachelor of Divinity degree. In 1987 he was asked to become the Archdeacon of the then Nebbi Archdeaconry. In 1993 the Nebbi Archdeaconry became the Nebbi Diocese and Orombi was elected as its first bishop. Two years later he completed leadership training through the Haggai Institute.
Orombi is married to Phoebe and they have three children living, and one deceased daughter. Orombi is a natural and gifted communicator and evangelist. He has distinguished himself as a Christian leader by promoting evangelism and mission, youth ministry, stewardship and financial accountability, girl-child education, and women’s literacy. Orombi and his wife have taken many young girls into their home and provided them with a loving family environment and educational opportunities.
