Archbishop Kaziimba Arrives in South Ankole Diocese for Pastoral Visit

NTUNGAMO, 16th January 2025: The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has this evening arrived in the Diocese of South Ankole, in Ntungamo District for his official pastoral visit.

During his visit, Archbishop Kaziimba will visit Kitunga Archdeaconry and Kibingo Church of Uganda in Nyakyera Archdeaconry and conclude with the 13th Diocesan anniversary celebrations at St. Matthew’s Cathedral Kyamate.

On arrival, the Archbishop was welcomed by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, and Maama Lillian Ahimbisibwe; The Very Rev. Canon Cranmer Mwesigwa, the Dean of St. Matthew’s Cathedral Kyamate; Rev. Canon Arthur Twinamatsiko, Diocesan Secretary; Ntungamo District Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Isaiah Kanyamahane, his Deputy Mr. Twakira Daniel Ntoraine, and jubilant Christians.

In a media interview, Rev. Asaph Mujuni, the Diocesan Communications Officer, commended the leadership of Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe, reflecting on the significant milestones achieved during his 13-year tenure as the founding Bishop.

“Evangelism has been at the core of his ministry, with a strong emphasis on holistic transformation through agriculture. The Diocese is widely recognized for its outstanding practices in coffee and banana growing, cattle keeping, and its contributions to improving education and health services,” Rev. Mujuni said.

While welcoming the Archbishop, the RDC, Mr. Isaiah Kanyamahane lauded the Church of Uganda for its partnership with the government in promoting household and community transformation.

He however expressed concern about the rising cases of domestic violence, urging the Church to support the government in combating this societal challenge.

South Ankole Diocese was curved out of Ankole and West Ankole Dioceses in 2012 with Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe being consecrated and enthroned as the first Bishop on 8th January 2012 by Archbishop Emeritus, Rt Rev Henry Luke Orombi.
